Try calling the phone number 211. This is a community referral service that lists various programs in a community that serve people in need. This number is slowly being introduced throughout Florida. Some communities already have it operating while some are still waiting to put it into operation. You can also view the website for the Florida Alliance for Information and Referral Services at www.flairs.org.
For people 55 years or older, the National Council on Aging has a website that has referrals to government programs that help with the cost of prescription drugs, health care, rent, utilities, property taxes, meals, and other needs. You can complete a brief questionnaire on the website and obtain a report on all the programs you might be eligible for and instructions how to enroll.
