Medicaid

The Florida Medicaid program provides medical coverage for Florida residents who meet the program’s low-income eligibility requirement. This mostly includes children, pregnant women, disabled adults, and seniors.

APPLICATION:

Applications for Medicaid are made through the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF). To learn more call the DCF toll-free number (866) 762-2237 or view the DCF website by clicking www.myflorida.com/cf_web.

A person who moves here from another state, who had Medicaid in the prior state, has to apply again for Medicaid in Florida. Medicaid cannot be transferred between states. However if you are a recipient of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and had Medicaid in another state, you can simply contact the Social Security office to report your new address. Call the Social Security office’s toll-free number (800) 772-1213 or TTY (800) 325-0778, or to view their website click www.ssa.gov.

CAREGIVERS:

Consumer Directed Care Plus offered through the Florida Dept. of Elder Affairs is a Medicaid Waiver Program that, under certain circumstances, pays family caregivers for taking care of a loved one. MEDICALLY NEEDY:

The Medically Needy Program is for people with extremely high medical bills but whose income is too high to qualify for traditional Medicaid. The program mostly covers people who have experienced a very serious illness and either have no health insurance or have exhausted their benefits.
