The Florida Medicaid program provides medical coverage for Florida residents who meet the program’s low-income eligibility requirement. This mostly includes children, pregnant women, disabled adults, and seniors.

A person who moves here from another state, who had Medicaid in the prior state, has to apply again for Medicaid in Florida. Medicaid cannot be transferred between states. However if you are a recipient of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and had Medicaid in another state, you can simply contact the Social Security office to report your new address. Consumer Directed Care Plus offered through the Florida Dept. of Elder Affairs is a Medicaid Waiver Program that, under certain circumstances, pays family caregivers for taking care of a loved one. The Medically Needy Program is for people with extremely high medical bills but whose income is too high to qualify for traditional Medicaid. The program mostly covers people who have experienced a very serious illness and either have no health insurance or have exhausted their benefits.
